Description: The International Experience Survey/Study IES is a pilot study being conducted by the Society of Actuaries to provide actuaries with practical information on experience in emerging and other markets outside of the United States and Canada. The IES has evolved from being a survey of multi-national company experience to national studies directed by actuaries from the data contributors located in the country under study. This report follows this evolution by dividing results into two major subdivisions of results: • Survey: The survey presents high-level results that facilitate comparisons of experience between different countries. • National studies: In depth studies of experience in countries directed by local actuaries to present more comprehensive results

Description: This paper was presented at the 1957 Society of Actuaries Eastern Spring Meeting, held March 21-22 in New York. The authors present the results of the fourth in a series of mortality studies of the experience of industrial policyholders of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for successive periods since 1911. This report extends the series to 1955, with emphasis on mortality trends during the post war decade. Like the earlier reports covering the four decades ending with 1950, mortality trends among these insured lives for the more important causes of death according to age, sex, and race are presented. Description: This paper, a study of Canadian life insurance company expenses, is regarded by the author, Arthur Pedoe, as a continuation of his earlier study presented to the Society of Actuaries in 1952 TSA IV, 485. In examining various expense trends the author emphasizes what he feels to be useful, namely an overall expense ratio defined as actual to expected total company expenses. The paper and ensuing discussion explore how expected expenses should be determined, as well as examining trends in group business expenses, among other topics.
