Description: Results of survey conducted in July 2006 about the methods used by insurers to develop their pricing mortality assumptions for fully underwritten life insurance in the U.S. The objective was to understand how companies adjust base mortality tables and whether mortality improvement was assumed.

Description: In January 1998, the NAIC Life and Health Actuarial Technical Task Force asked the Society of Actuaries to address disability reserving issues. The reason for this request was that the NAIC had received reports that statutory reserves based on the current morbidity tables frequently fail the tests of adequacy and reasonableness. Further, they requested that this review extend to contract and claim reserves and across all lines of disability insurance - group and individual, and short- and long-term. They also requested help in establishing when it is appropriate for a company to use its own experience in valuation. Description: This report covers the U.S. intercompany mortality experience by amount of life insurance under standard individually underwritten issues between 1989 and 1990 anniversaries. The report also combines experience between 1985 and 1990 so that broader comparisons can be made for males vs. females, smoker vs. nonsmoker, and medical vs. nonmedical issues.

The Committee on Health Benefit Systems Research is pleased to announce the availability of the 1991-92 Group Medical Insurance Large Claims Database. The database includes more than 171,000 claims of $25,000 or more, representing over $10 billion in total charges. Fields include diagnosis 3digit ICD-9 code, type of coverage HMO, PPO, Indemnity, etc., claimant status employee or dependent, and charges split into hospital and non-hospital, in addition to claimant age and gender.
