This would obligate companies that write predominantly health business onto the orange blank rather than the blue blank, which they have historically used for reporting. Description: The session is based on an article of the same name featured in the January, 2023 issue of Health Watch. It gives a step-by-step method of how to apply the average paid PMPM method to calculate IBNR with zero run-out, as opposed to current methods, which generally require a three-month run-out period. Methods for obtaining confidence intervals for the IBNR estimates will also be discussed.

Description: Internal audit (IA) projects typically focus on evaluating the risks and operational effectiveness of a company’s technological, regulatory/compliance, and/or financial processes and procedures. One topic is general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for insurance brokers under ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) for commissions on Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement contracts, where the broker may get to recognize the expected value of all future commissions on a contract as revenue when the contract is placed. The other topic is GAAP under ASC 460 (Guarantees) in situations where a non-provider entity is bearing risk related to health care services, which can occur under the CMS Direct Contracting/ACO REACH model or under private sector care coordination contracts."
