Description: From a session at a meeting of the Society of Actuaries held in San Diego, CA, June 22-23, 2000 This session presented the results of a survey of the U.S. actuarial profession conducted by the Committee on Professional Responsibility of the American Academy of Actuaries. This survey asked questions relating to the individual actuary's awareness of and familiarly with the Code of Professional Conduct, Actuarial Standards of Practice, and qualification standards, as well as understanding of the activities of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline.

Description: Discusses the life company actuary's responsibility to the insurance buying public, and the relationship to his concurrent responsibility to the agency force, stockholders, and present policyholders. Also discusses the employee benefit actuary's responsibility to plan beneficiaries and the relationship to his concurrent responsibility to employers and unions, and the public's interest in actuarial techniques and its need for meaningful actuarial explanation.

Description: Presentation at June 1980 SOA meeting. Discussed the responsibility of the actuary on self-funded group insurance plans and how this might differ for consultants as opposed to insurer staff, and provides specific case studies.
