Description: This is the first in a series of articles about accounting for reinsurance under GAAP Targeted Improvements to the Accounting for Long-Duration Contracts (LDTI). Changes include a few that directly address reinsurance and others that indirectly result from changes to direct accounting and the existing ties between reinsurance and direct accounting.

At the conclusion of the second part, the attendees will learn about potential Reserve Relief reinsurance solutions. Such solutions can provide Reserve Relief for annuity and term life businesses, as well as potential innovative asset-side solutions. Asset managers can structure assets that the C-1 factor aligned with the corresponding risk.

Description: It's time to talk about Bermuda and Cayman as offshore jurisdictions for life reinsurance. Bermuda, a growing destination for life and annuity reinsurance over the last few years is developing significant changes to its regulatory framework. Asset, liability, and capital requirement will all change under proposed new rules. The changes will not only require rethinking of U.S. and international reinsurance ALM strategy and pricing, but also product strategy and pricing for primary insurers. Developing compelling ALM strategies and products under the evolving Bermuda regulatory framework is an interesting challenge for the U.S. and international insurers and reinsurers. In addition to Bermuda, the speakers will discuss the emerging Cayman life reinsurance market.

Description: Canada has been proactive in establishing governance frameworks for reinsurance transactions. Initiatives from individuals, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions OSFI and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries CIA have addressed concerns about and scrutiny of reinsurance transactions from worldwide securities and insurance regulators, rating agencies and the media. It is important to note that actuaries have played a vital role in identifying and developing these initiatives and will continue to have a major influence in further development of governance standards and in providing education.
