Description: The most recent U.S. population data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and from the U.S. Census at year-end 2021 includes the first ten months of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. While we know the pandemic has had significant impacts on both the U.S. population and insured population mortality, we also see increased mortality due to many other non-COVID causes of death. Where are the biggest changes and what does this non-COVID excess mortality mean over the next few years? Take part as an expert panel hosts an interactive discussion to examine data from general population as well as from both individual life and group life experience studies to explore how these changes might spur innovation in underwriting, assumption setting and pricing.

Product profitability will be shaped by how morbidity patterns, interest rate levels and other key drivers will play out into the future. Description: Deaths due to non-medical causes such as drug overdoses, alcohol-related deaths, homicides, suicides and accidents are the leading cause of death for those under the age of 50 in the U.S. and is the fourth leading cause of death (after cardiovascular, cancer and COVID-19) for all ages combined in 2021. Take a deep dive with us into the mortality trends for non-medical causes of death and the impact these deaths have on different types of life insurance, including simplified issued, fully underwritten and group.

Description: After a sustained period of mortality improvement, U.S. population mortality improvement has stagnated in recent years. The presenters will discuss mortality improvement trends in the U.S. population and the causes of death contributing to these trends. U.S. population cause of death trends will be analyzed and compared to trends in the insured population. Mortality rates for major causes of death will be compared between the U.S. population and the insured population. In addition, assumption setting for both older age and later duration mortality as well as mortality improvement will be covered.
