Some case studies will also be presented where traditional reinsurers and asset-intensive reinsurers helped insurers bring products to life.

Description: LDTI requires that reinsurance recoverables be recognized in a manner consistent with the liabilities of underlying direct contracts. Consider implications of multiple ceded reinsurance contracts (e.g., coinsurance and YRT on the same business) and how this impacts the calculation of the net premium ratio (NPR) and other related approximations. Explore different options when only some of the policies within a cohort are reinsured. Multiple interpretations of the components of the NPR formula exist. Two main approaches will be presented-standalone and integrated approach. Other considerations to be discussed include implications of closed-block reinsurance transactions at transition and subsequent to transition, contra-DAC, market risk benefits. Finally, explore the short-duration YRT approximation (1/2 Cx) compared to the long-duration calculation.

Marketing, distribution, and user experience have become the trinity in finding, acquiring, and keeping a user through the end of an application process. Recently, particularly in the post-COVID digital-first world, many insurance companies have transformed their technology teams to build significantly improved user-experiences on their websites and mobile apps. The designs are often limited by the insurance products that the consumer wants to interact with (and how they want to interact). In this session, the presenters will look at how actuaries can design the insurance product simultaneously to the user experience, and let the experience drive product development.
