Description: This presentation is an open forum, session number 45OF, from the 1999 Valuation Actuary Symposium, held September 23-24 in Los Angeles. In this session, the panelists provide an update on the current uses of reinsurance, including term insurance, mortality stabilization, earnings volatility stabilization, variable life and annuities and other investment-oriented products, health insurance, and nontraditional uses. They discuss uses of reinsurance for specific products and lines of business, reinsurance as a financial tool, and due diligence issues in selecting reinsurers.
