The intent of the survey was to gather information on the many variations in risk management awareness and practices of U.S. companies surrounding their U.S. insurance life business.

Description: This report presents the results of the 1986-92 Credit Risk Event 'CRE' Loss Experience Study which represents a continuation of the 1986-89 pilot study analyzing loss experience by institutional investors on private placement bonds. This continuing study is being conducted under the auspices of the Society of Actuaries and involves thirteen institutional investors which accounted for between 34% and 42% of outstanding life insurance company private placement bond holdings during the study period. The study measures incidence rates, loss severities and economic loss rates associated with credit risk events for privately placed debt during the years 1986-92. Description: This report presents the results of a survey of the actions companies took on their term products in response to the introduction of the NAIC Valuation of Life Insurance Policies Model Regulation, ‘Regulation XXX,’ and Actuarial Standard of Practice No. 40. The survey also explores the development of companies' X factors, the associated annual X factor certification process and how Regulation XXX impacts the companies' level term pricing. The survey was conducted by the Regulation XXX Survey Subcommittee of the Society of Actuaries Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Survey Committee. Common survey responses to Regulation XXX included consideration of reinsurance, changes in product design, the most common changes reported being the length of the guarantee period and the level of the gross premiums, and changing rates on existing products.

Description: This report, part of the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Business Practice Surveys,’ presents the results of a survey conducted by the SOA Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys – Improving the New Business Process Survey Subcommittee. The survey examined the various changes U.S. and Canadian life insurance companies have recently made, or are considering making, to improve the new business process and to determine which changes were considered by the respondents to have had the most impact. Survey topics include the application process, changes to underwriting requirements, underwriting systems, underwriting resources, experience based on past changes, and policy delivery.
