Description: Staple Inn, London, has been used by actuaries since 1887 when the Institute of Actuaries was first based there. This article tells of a November 1992 visit to Staple Inn by Morris Chambers and Walter S. Rugland, then presidents of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the SOA respectively. They were both greatly impressed with the Staple Inn hall and particularly with its historic stained glass windows, but noted that a few panes contained only plain glass. Here was an opportunity to contribute a very special gift to the Institute, especially with its 150th anniversary six years away. Chambers and Rugland championed the idea to the SOA, the CIA, and the American Academy of Actuaries. The result was three windows, all designed by the same artist, Ted Goodden, for consistency, and presented during the Institute’s 150th anniversary celebration.
