Description: This article discusses the development of Universal Life insurance in the U.S. from the British perspective. The author notes that despite the different regulatory and fiscal climates in the U.S. and U.K., the key elements of Universal Life design can be found in similar products in the U.K. known there as unit-linked products. The differences in design, in part the result of differing tax policies, are also discussed.
