In this session, we will debate key topics and questions, such as: What is the predominant future career path for actuaries? Specialists or generalists? Does the actuarial profession have a meaningful value prop outside our core domains e.g. insurance? What skills are needed for the actuary of the future? What’s the best approach to improve actuarial storytelling to non-actuarial audiences? What’s the role of actuaries to managing and predicting emerging trends and assumptions? What is the role of actuaries in relation to development and ownership of advanced modeling? Is the future actuarial profession smaller/larger than it is today? In either case, how does it differ from today in terms of make-up, deployment, function, purpose, value add, etc.?

Description: Most, if not all of us, have experienced a time when we were involved in a conversation that made us uncomfortable. After a short presentation to provide things to consider prior or during a difficult conversation, attendees will work at their tables to discuss a variety of topics. After each topic has been discussed, someone at each table will be given the opportunity to share something insightful with the group.

Discuss the latest trends in the marketplace and the key changes we see actuaries and actuarial employers needing to make in the future of work. Learn how actuarial work is evolving and about the changing manner in which work is performed. Brainstorm specific ways actuaries can thrive in the future, including performing more strategic work.

Description: After the arduous journeys IFRS 17 filers underwent to implement the standard, it would only make sense for insurers to seek the best return on their investment post effective date of 1/1/2023. Many insurers are now embarking a new phase of the journey that involves wrapping up any unfinished business as they might have taken a minimum compliance route to finish implementation and thinking about the knock-on effects the new standard has on the way they carry out business and perform financial reporting.

Description: As actuaries continue to advance their careers, the ability to communicate becomes more and more important. In particular, developing strong presentation skills becomes a critical success factor. Actuaries need to be able to stand in front of large and small groups and deliver information in an interesting and compelling way. Like many other skills that don't necessarily come naturally, developing strong presentation skills takes practice and preparation.
