Description: The actuarial profession is changing rapidly and the skills needed to be successful are also changing. In this session, we will debate key topics and questions, such as: What is the predominant future career path for actuaries? Specialists or generalists? Does the actuarial profession have a meaningful value prop outside our core domains e.g. insurance? What skills are needed for the actuary of the future? What’s the best approach to improve actuarial storytelling to non-actuarial audiences? What’s the role of actuaries to managing and predicting emerging trends and assumptions? What is the role of actuaries in relation to development and ownership of advanced modeling? Is the future actuarial profession smaller/larger than it is today? In either case, how does it differ from today in terms of make-up, deployment, function, purpose, value add, etc.?

Description: Because of its complexity, ensuring the security of cyberspace is one of today’s most significant challenges. As the cyber environment becomes more integrated with the real world, the direct impact of cyber security incidents on business is also heightened. This study aims to develop a generic model that can be applied by any organization. For the validation of the developed cyber risk analysis method, simulations and sensitivity analysis will be performed.

Description: Learn to master leadership, communication and teamwork during the Soft Skills in the Quantitative Field webcast. While actuaries work in a technical field, discover ways to implement creativity into professional settings. The second portion of this webcast focuses on technical skills. Determine best ways to utilize time management for deep work, while also concentrating on knowledge exchanges between colleagues with different perspectives and areas of specialization to increase satisfaction. Explore how both soft and technical skills can challenge the actuarial perception standpoint and which will be least vulnerable to automation in the future.

This essay met the publication criteria of the judging committee. It outlines a practical application of “Hedging Longevity Risk: Does the Structure of the Financial Instrument Matter?”1 by Richard D. MacMinn and Nan Zhu. The essay is solely an expression of the views, opinions, and ideas of the essay author for applying the original research to actuarial work in industry.
