Description: The Society of Actuaries' Pension Section and Health Section Research teams commissioned Professor Thomas E. Getzen of Temple University to construct a resource model for the projection of long term healthcare cost trends. The motivation for creation of the model was driven by its potential usage as a resource for the estimation of reportable liabilities for retiree healthcare benefits as specified under FAS 106 and GASB 45 accounting statements. This model, programmed in Microsoft Excel [xlsx format], projects per-person expenditures and growth rates through 2099 using a set of equations and assumptions developed by Professor Getzen with assistance from the Society of Actuaries Project Oversight Group appointed to oversee the effort. The model includes baseline assumptions as well as flexibility for user–inputted alternative assumptions.

Description: This is the databook for the "Health Care Cost - From Birth to Death". This study used commercial data held by the Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI) and Medicare fee-for-service data to analyze health care cost differences by age and their contribution to overall health care cost change. The commercial data includes claims from 2002 through 2010 and the Medicare data includes claims from 2006 through 2010.

Description: The Society of Actuaries and LIMRA have sponsored a U.S. Individual Disability Income Persistency Study. The report, authored by Cathy Ho and Steve Elek, presents the results of a study of individual disability income (“IDI”) lapse experience in the United States between observation years 2000 and 2007. This is the first report in a two-part series that will present results of a study conducted jointly by LIMRA and the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and based on data provided by 12 individual disability income insurance writers.
