Description: The Cash Flow Valuation Method has recently been adopted for valuation of annuity products in Canada and has application to all other life insurance products. Under this method, the statement liability for a block of business is the value of the assets required to enable the insurer to run off the block. The method therefore involves both assets and liabilities and reflects the insurer's investment policy.

Description: The purpose of this reports is to define topics and provide information on techniques currently available in support of the development of dynamic solvency testing, DST. The paper covers topics of the time frame for analysis, scenario interpretations, credibility, confidence standards and reliance guidance.

The first speaker discussed the complete solvency testing process and the route by which the valuation actuary arrives at conclusions and prepares a solvency report. The second speaker discussed certain general objectives and requirements of the valuation actuary's report and then indicated how a hypothetical company's sample report was drafted with these points in mind.

Description: A proposal for a minimum continuing capital and surplus requirement for life insurers has recently been circulated by the Department of Insurance Canada for comment by the life insurance industry and the actuarial profession in Canada. This talk describes some of the reasoning and methodology underlying this proposal.
