The SOA Board has conducted an exhaustive study of the critical challenges facing the SOA, the actuarial profession and long-term growth prospects for both. We are excited to share the strategic roadmap for how we will evolve and transform our educational offerings to empower candidates and members with new skills and techniques in order to elevate the profession’s effectiveness for employers and society and safeguard its relevance and viability.
We call this SOA to the e-power. It will take all of us to power this transformation and realize its exponential opportunities.
The Case for Change
Everyday, actuaries are analyzing more data than ever before, and managing the increasing complexity and interconnectedness of risk. Major changes are affecting our profession, from new technologies to shifting demographics to the globalization of business and the need to foster a more diverse, equitable and inclusive profession.
We have studied the accelerating trends which are changing our environment and impacting our work as actuaries. We’ve identified the following six critical issues through this strategic effort:

Our Path Forward
This initiative is a several year journey, from analysis to full implementation, with some changes happening sooner than others. The work we have done to date has been deep, covered a wide scope of issues and identified many areas for attention. We have shared our findings with various stakeholders and have incorporated their feedback into our work to convert this analysis into practical, actionable strategies. We will keep you informed of updates and official changes in advance of implementation.
