Spotlight on Retirement: Latin America

February, 2020

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) and LIMRA jointly commissioned this research in Latin America to study current and future retirement market opportunities. In the twenty-first century, Latin America has undergone a significant and rapid demographic shift towards an aging population. The aging population imposes a disproportionate burden on the working-age population, while simultaneously exerting immense pressure on current pension systems. This study analyzes the public and private options available to consumers and their retirement planning behaviors. This study used a sample of 6,218 respondents, providing information on consumer perceptions of retirement in six major Latin American markets: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.
