Description: In this presentation made at the 1975 Society of Actuaries annual meeting, the speaker addresses the concept of actuaries as futurists, simply by being actuaries. The speaker then defines a futurist as “very simply, the executive who takes the future environment seriously. Most of us let the urgent affairs of today drive out the important affairs of tomorrow. By ‘environment’ I mean the social, technological, economic, and political environment.” The presentation goes on emphasize that the futurist must overcome shortsightedness and tunnel vision.
